Our Irish Penal Pocket Rosary is a very convenient and easy to carry straight line single decade rosary. It is fashioned like the Penal Rosaries used in Ireland prior to the 1700s when the church was being persecuted. It was easily hidden up a sleeve or in clothing.
To use this rosary, the ring is placed on the thumb and moved to each finger each time a decade of the rosary is prayed until completion of all 5 decades. The crucifix on this rosary is an Irish design full of symbolism on both the front and back such as the crown of thorns, the ladder used to remove Christ from the cross, the spear, the 5 wounds, and the chalice from the last supper.
By the way, a kind customer, Luigi, suggests that the bottom symbol represents the SPONGE that was soaked with sour wine hyssop and given to Our Lord Jesus, before he breathed his last breath.

I like the look of this Irish Penal rosary. I’m not Irish, but it was interesting to learn the history of why Irish Catholics carried this type of rosary, and the meaning of the various markings on the crucifix.
I use the key ring to keep track of what decade I am on while praying the rosary by moving the ring from one finger to the next and the key ring is large enough to accommodate my thumb.
The only modification I made was to switch the positions of the crucifix & key ring. That way, I can let the rosary hang by gravity from my finger, and the “Our Father” is first in line next to the key ring & my finger. This modification just makes it easier for me to pray the rosary by manipulating it with one hand.
Besides all that, this is just a really cool rosary and I’m glad I got it!

The rosary is just the right size to tuck in the arm rest handle in my granddaughter’s car. It is well made and should serve her well as she goes off to college four hours away this fall. I use my tenner whenever I travel. The ring makes it so easy to keep track of decades without distraction from driving.
Was looking for a smaller pocket rosary and this is perfect. Very high quality, does not get all tangled up in a pocket like a regular rosary and I barely feel it in there. Really like the history behind the battle rosary.

I do not worry about it riding in my pocket, and it is discreet enough to keep on my desk at work throughout the day. I originally purchased this for Lent, but it immediately became my daily carry. Add the blended history of military issue and the Irish styling, and this rosary becomes much more than just a tool for prayer.

I live the penal rosary. I only wish I knew what the symbols on the Irish cross meant. Perhaps would could write an explanation when you send them out. Otherwise they're the best I've seen.

As always the quality of this Rosary is excellent. I especially like the ring which someone indicated the user could shift from finger to finger to track the full Rosary. Once your return is received and processed, we will send you an email to notify you that a refund has been applied to your credit card or original method of payment.
