FAQ

General Shipping Questions

How will the order be packaged?

We use sturdy cotton drawstring bags for the paracord rosaries and round containers for the WWI combat rosaries. Next we add a little extra surprise. You may discover a prayer card, a rosary ring, or another little item in your order.

It all gets bubble wrapped for protection during shipping. Then we insert it into a padded mailer or box.

Currently we are moving toward more recyclable materials.

When is your order cutoff time?

Orders that come in after 12pm PST will be pushed to the next business day. We strive to ship out all orders within 24 hours; however if we cannot fulfill an order within 3 business days then we will notify you of options. Our business days are Monday through Friday, so orders placed late on Friday will not be filled until Monday.

When are you going to ship my products?

We try to keep an inventory of our most popular rosaries and items on hand but many are made to order as well. We strive to have your order ready and shipped out within the next business day. If for some reason it will take longer, we will contact you to see if you want to make any change. Most orders to go out within a day. Note that if you order late on a Friday, your purchase will probably not ship until Monday.

When will my order arrive?

Your order will arrive usually within 4 or 5 days of placing your order. Of course you might receive it much later if you do not live in the USA, and there are many factors which can effect delivery times overseas. For Domestic USA orders, shipping should take only 4 to 5 days for standard shipping. We find that Priority will take 2-3 business days, and Express will be 2-3 days including weekends with Sunday deliveries in some cities.

VERY IMPORTANT: The US Postal Service starts counting days on the day after the item is received by the post office.

Do you ship to APO's?

Yes we do! Shipping generally takes longer and can sometimes take over 20 days. Please keep in mind that we can not ship Priority EXPRESS to APOs.

Why don't you guarantee shipping?

We can only guarantee what is in our control. We place our faith and trust in our shipping providers, but cannot guarantee their performance. If you have a shipping issue, we will help however possible to resolve the issue.

Can I Ship my Order to a Different Shipping Address?

We love sending Rugged Rosaries to your family and friends too!

When checking out, you will be prompted to fill out your shipping information first! This is where you will put the name and address of who the order will be shipped to.

Next, when you get to the billing page to enter your credit card info, look for the checkbox that says the BILLING ADDRESS is Different than SHIPPING ADDRESS. Check that box and you can then enter your name and billing address.

If you want to send rosaries to more than one address, you will have to place separate orders for each.

Rosary Care and Material

There is a tiny melted spot on the side of one of the knots on my rosary. What is that?

Because parachute cord gets its strength and color designs from multiple strands of nylon, any cut end can fray. Therefore, we incorporate cut ends into knotted areas of the product and then singe the cut end thus giving the product extra strength against pulling apart and also to prevent unraveling at the cut end. All of our products are created with a single long length of paracord to eliminate as many raw endpoints as possible.

Is my rosary waterproof?

In a word, yes. If your rosary gets wet, we recommend that you dry it off as much as you can with a towel, then let it dry in a cool dark spot.
If your paracord rosary is submerged in water, it is best to let it dry in a cool environment to prevent minor shrinkage. Heated wet paracord will shrink slightly. We had a customer which had his rosary blessed by his priest and the priest dropped the rosary completely into the holy water and it was soaked. When he then left and placed his wet rosary in the car, it baked in the hot sun and shrunk causing the spacing between the beads to become slightly shorter. If anything like this happens to your rosary, we will be glad to re-tie it for you.
The WWI Battle Beads® Combat Rosaries are coated brass and do not rust. The medals and crucifixes used on them are zamac and also do not rust. However, if you get them wet, it's good practice to dry them off with a soft towel.

Are the Rosaries Hypoallergenic?

If you are one of 23% of Americans that have some type of allergy, this information is for you!

Rosaries are made out of many different materials and Rugged Rosaries are no different. If you have an allergy to metals, then we absolutely have some options for you.

The wooden rosary beads contain no medals. You can see the Wood Rosary Collection Here.

We can also make you an all knotted paracord rosary through the customization process. The paracord is made from 100% nylon.

Crucifixes and Devotional Medals are almost always made of Zamac. Zamac is a mixed alloy of zinc, aluminum, with traces of magnesium and copper that is dipped in silver. The hardness gives a bold look and it has a longer lifespan than other alloys while having the look of silver which is why so many of the Italian manufacturers of the crucifixes and medals use it. It is also considered to be fairly hypoallergenic.

The paracord rosaries have a variety of materials. The acrylic resin beads, especially the black, brown, blue, red, white, ivory, green contain no metals. The bronze, silver, and copper acrylic beads have a metallic baked-on finish. For allergy-prone people, we do not recommend the paracord rosaries with metal beads. The metal beads are an alloy containing mostly zinc, aluminum, and copper. Most are nickel-free, but the Gunmetal color, and the bright Gold color may contain traces of nickel.

The chains for the WWI Battle Beads are plated brass. The platings are all nickel-free alloy. However, for a few people, even the platings can be problematic. We are the only company that has a Stainless Steel option for these chains. The Stainless Steel chain is naturally silver with no plating at all and hypoallergenic. Do keep in mind that the centerpiece medal and crucifix are still Zamac alloy. Email support@ruggedrosaries.com for stainless steel chains.

We do keep a small supply of stainless steel crucifixes. They tend to be of lower quality and smaller in size than the Italian crucifixes made from the Zamac alloy, but we do have them available from our customer ca

What is Paracord?

Paracord is nylon parachute cord. It was first used to hold the parachutes of paratroopers in WWII.  It's a nylon cord that has been used in the military for general utility applications since the 1940's.  It's made of an outer woven sheath (in many color choices) and 7 inner twisted nylon strands. It's sometimes referred to as 550 cord because it has a  minimum breaking strength of 550 lbs. It is pliable, has a slight stretch, is mildew and water resistant, and is VERY strong. The diameter of the paracord we use is between 3mm and 4mm. We do not "gut" or remove the inner strands so you get the full strength of the paracord in your rugged rosary.

Product Components

Where Do You Get Your Beads?

This is the most common question we get asked. Company policy does not allow us to publish the source of the beads, however, we can tell you that many of the beads are custom designed and manufactured exclusively for Rugged Rosaries® in our exclusive finishes and colors. We order hundreds of thousands of them at a time! We do not use the breakable pony beads seen in craft stores.

Local craft or bead shops carry assortments of beads for making rosaries.

Where Do You Get Your Crucifixes and Medals?

We try to offer a very good assortment of unique crucifixes along with a few more popular styles such as a Pardon Indulgence crucifix and St. Benedict crucifix. Most of our crucifixes are imported from Italy but some also come from Germany, Isreal, and Brazil. Almost all of our devotional medals are from Italy.

Usage and Blessings

Are the Rosaries Blessed?

No. If you wish to have your rosary blessed, you will have to get that done after you receive it. We do not believe that a blessed item should be sold as profits should not be made on a sacramental item. Also, when we receive a returned rosary, we will not resell it, but will instead donate it to our local church or military chaplain.

Can I wear my rosary around my neck?

We do not make our rosaries to be worn, however, we know many of our customers do wear them. Almost all of our 5 decade rosaries can be worn. If the style is too small to fit over your head, we will tell you that in the description of the rosary. Some men have an extra-large hat size and if that is the case, you can request your rosary to be made extra long in the "Order Note" box on the shopping cart page. We will add just enough extra slack in the decades to add 2 more inches to the diameter of the rosary so that it will definitely fit over your head.

Please know that rosaries should not be worn as a fashion item. Rosaries, even rugged rosaries made of paracord, should be handled reverently and worn only prayerfully and as a reminder of faith.

Absolutely do not allow a small child to wear a paracord rosary. They do not "break away" if they were to get hooked on something.

DO NOT wear a paracord rosary when working with machinery or other dangerous physical activity where the rosary could become entangled. Use common

Rosary Disposal and Repair

What To Do With Old or Broken Rosaries?

When a rosary has been blessed by a priest or bishop, it becomes a sacramental, and should be treated with reverence and care. Even if your rosary is not blessed, or if you do not know if it's been blessed, it's a good idea to treat it as if it were.

“Sacred objects, which are designated for divine worship by dedication or blessing, are to be treated reverently and are not to be employed for profane or inappropriate use even if they are owned by private persons.” – Code of Canon Law 1171

Remember that if your Rugged Rosary breaks, please contact us to see about a repair or replacement.

So what do you do with old or broken rosaries... maybe you just have too many or they are unusable and old.

1. If it's in relatively good shape, give it away.

2. If it's broken, you can attempt a repair. If it's made with precious metals or gemstones, it is probably worth having a jeweler take a look.

3. Bring it to a Catholic Church. Many churches have a receptacle for old rosaries and you can place them there.

4. Do not ever just toss a rosary in the trash. However, burying the rosary is very acceptable.

5. Or, carefully burn it first and then bury it.

A favorite place to bury a rosary is at the gravesite of a loved one.

Orders and Returns

Can I change or edit my order after it is placed?

Unfortunately, we cannot make changes to an order once it is placed. When you place your order, inventory is locked into our systems and funds have been preauthorized, and we aren’t able to make any changes to the order. This includes adding or removing items, editing quantities, adding a gift message or canceling an order.

If you need to add something to the order, simply place a second order soon after. Our shipping department is trained to combine the orders and refund any extra shipping costs immediately if the first order has not yet shipped.  Keep in mind, we ship very fast. There is no need to email support for this. We cannot add items to existing orders once placed. We actually do not ever see your credit card, nor do we have access to your credit card number, so we cannot add anything and charge your card for you. All credit card payments are handled through the banking merchant services to keep your credit card info secure.

I Unexpectedly Received a Refund

Did you receive an email from Rugged Rosaries indicating you have unexpectedly received a refund?

Most often an unexpected refund is because we have been able to save you on shipping costs. This happens most often for customers who have placed multiple orders in quick succession to the same shipping address. Our shipping team is trained to combine the orders and refund any extra shipping costs.

Other times you may get a refund is if an item in your order is not available for shipping. In this case, you will get a refund for that item, but we will also email you separately to alert you of the problem with the item.

If you received a FULL refund of your entire order, it may mean that our e-commerce system automatically canceled your order immediately after it was submitted. This usually happens when the payment does not pass the fraudulent tests. It may be that your card had some suspicious activity on it or that some of the info for the credit card was entered incorrectly. Please contact support@ruggedrosaries.com to help solve this issue.

Exchanges from Other Companies - Competitor and Copycat Exchanges

If you purchased a similar product from another company such as a paracord rosary, or a WWI style combat rosary, and for whatever reason, you have a problem with it - We will take care of you!  Maybe the other company doesn't have good customer service for a rosary that is broken, or maybe you bought a mass-produced overseas copycat product without even knowing it (see about them here). We can exchange the product for one of our beautiful handmade rosaries. Why would we do this?  Well, we see it as a win/win. You get good customer service, and we earn your trust. And hopefully, you will purchase from Rugged Rosaries in the future.

To exchange a rosary from another company, send an email with photo of the rosary and source of the rosary to support@ruggedrosaries.com and just tell us why you would like to do a competitor/copycat company exchange. We'll take it from there.

To return your product, you should mail your product to:

Rugged Rosaries - Competitor Exchange
6363 Richmond Ave. Suite 450
HOUSTON, TEXAS 77057

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable.
If you are shipping an item over $75, you should consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance.
We cannot guarantee that we will receive your returned item.

Where to Enter a Discount Code?

Discount or Gift Card codes are entered on the Checkout Page. This is the page right after your shopping cart page. There is a phrase right under the list of things you order and before the lines showing your subtotal and shipping that says "Discount code or gift card". Click there to add your code.

Now sometimes, if you are using "Shop Pay", "Paypal", or "Google Pay", the system bypasses that checkout page! So please, if you can't get it to work properly, please email support@ruggedrosaries.com after you place your order and we will manually refund your discount.

Wholesale Information

Do you sell products wholesale to retailers or church stores?

We are a retailer, not a wholesaler. At this time we only sell our products through our website at ruggedrosaries.com, occasionally through Amazon.com and Ebay.com.  However, we do keep a list of interested retailers so that if and when we offer wholesale to resellers, we will be able to contact you. Email support@ruggedrosaries.comto be added to the list.
